Fully Automated Results with Fixed Screening Parameters

All results are based on the same standardized, objective criteria:
  • Automatic pass/refer results that require no interpretation
  • Preset screening parameters that cannot be adjusted
  • Minimizes the risk of user error and test variability

Key Messages

1. Hearing loss should be screened preferably before 1 month of age.
2. Universal neonatal screening rather than targeted ‘high risk’ screening is ideal.
3. If abnormal OAE detected, it is repeated at 6 weeks or on the first immunization visit.
4. If again abnormal, ABR is done for confirmation followed by full audiological evaluation and remediation with hearing aids
5. All NICU babies should undergo ABR testing to rule out auditory dys-synchrony/ auditory neuropathy

Screening Parameters

Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emissions (TEOAE)

TEOAE symbol
Able to screen for even a mild hearing loss. Testing frequency range: 1.5 to 3.5 kHz

Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (DPOAE)

DPOAE
Frequency specific screening: 2, 2.5, 3.2, and 4 kHz

AABR Technology

For auditory neuropathy
Necessary for detecting auditory neuropathy. Optimized for screening newborns. Testing frequency range: 2 to 4 kHz

Robust signal detection

Robust Signal
Artifact rejection system distinguishes between external noise and actual patient response.

The Echo-Screen system utilizes proprietary AOAE® and AABR technologies
